Once again a fantastic event for Mounts Bay Harriers – This race, organised with precision by Fowey River Lions is called by some as ‘The Cornish Ironman’ and doesn’t get any easier – the swim this year seemed a little more choppy and slalomy? (is that a word?) yachts seemed to be everywhere and sighting and finding a way through seemed more difficult? The hill out of Polruan at the start of the bike never gets any easier, especially as they don’t stop the traffic – if you get caught on this hill, it’s so narrow you’re buggered – and the run has hills that go on and on, then the downhills are either very steep on deep dried up river beds, running in the trench before eventually hitting the off road bit through the field, yep you’ve guessed up hill!
Although the fastest time of the day went to Matt Lewis (and fastest bike and run, he is just such a nice bloke!) MBH performed extremely well – Matt Stokeld finished 2nd and Gus Gusterson 3rd! Nick Harvey (6th) and Don Hutchison (7th) both managed to also get under the 2 hour mark to once again (for the 4th Year running) take the fastest team – and an MBH ‘B’ team, entering at the last minute gained a creditable 3rd with Shawny Gimbert (who had an amazingly fast bike leg), Yvonne and myself (8th), That’s 5 MBH in the top 10!!! – Packet of Three from Plymouth were sandwiched in between us
Other results I can remember were fastest swim Dan Murphy, First vet – Nick Creasy, 2nd vet, last years winner, Dave Copeland (Spike on Tri Talk!) AND DON 3RD VET- First Lady – Lisa Picton, she just gets better and better doesn’t she?
Full results and timings should be on the FoweyRiverTri site (and here) by the end of the week – next years race will be on Sunday September 7th at 10am – this year the race was full by January, so if you want to enter look out for next years entry form on the website in a couple of weeks!
Well Done Boys & Girls – Yvonne made it up the hill on her bike from Polruan, which in itself is no mean feat – best bit of the day was most of the MBH team jumping into the harbour when we’d finished!! Relief! (work it out!)
what’s next? Is it Bodmin or Wadebridge? (No, its Mylor!! edited by YT)
