8/9 th June 2019 – a very busy weekend!
Race for Life:
On Wednesday the 5th of June Penzance held their race for life offering a 5k or 10k challenge in order to raise money for cancer research. This popular event saw along with many adults, seven MBH juniors take part. Well done Savannah & Jolie Gibbs, Tama & Aria Griffiths, Sawyer & Gabriel Kelly, Cerys Matthews.
Endurance life Classic Quarter:
Saturday the 8th of June saw athletes take on the challenge of running 44 miles along the Cornish coast paths from Lizard to Land’s End. This can be done as a solo runner, as a pairing or as a team of four. Representing Mounts Bay Harriers were Tom Berryman & Rebecca Wilding as solo runner’s completing the full 44 miles. Michael Rooney & Ruth Glover as a pairing completed 22 miles each. There were also several teams of four splitting the run down into quarters.
Solo – Tom Berryman in 9:00:26 earning him 37th place.
Rebecca Wilding in 11:07:53 earning 122nd place
Pairing – Michael Rooney, Ruth Glover in 9:39:29 – 42nd place
Teams: Paul Angove, Karen McClay, Andrew Hickson, Jeremy in 7:35:47 – 10th place.
Mark Jones, John Gorton, Keith Gale, Simon Blackburn in 10:19:30 – 64th place
Sandra Treleven, Michelle Dyer, Becks Strike + friend Keith Dickson in 10:31:01 – 66th place
The Ottillo:
On Saturday the 8th of June this event took place on the Scilly Islands. The swimrun sees athletes swim & run around three Islands – St Mary’s, St Martin’s & Tresco covering a Total distance of 37,275 metre’s, consisting of 28,925 metre’s running & 8,350 metre’s swimming in open sea. Four MBH members took on this considerable challenge-

Race to the Tower:
Saturday the 8th of June saw 5 MBH members travelled to Stroud to tackle the Race to the Tower – a double Marathon =52.40 miles through the beautiful but very hilly Cotswold countryside. Sue Taylor & Gary Richards were delighted to finish 1st in their respective age groups. All the Harriers loved the event in spite of the 7000 feet of climbing.

Dorney Lake Olympic Triathlon:
Saturday the 8th of June saw this Olympic distance Triathlon take place covering a 1500 metre swim, 25 mile cycle & a 10k run. MBH member Jeremy Gusterson took part – conditions were very wet & windy which lead to Jeremy crashing on the first lap of the cycle. Uninjured, Jeremy picked himself up & jumped straight back on to have a good race finishing 7th overall & 1st in age group.
AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds:
Sunday the 9th of June saw Eden Elisabeth Backhouse competing along side her GBR fellow athletes for the second weekend in a row. As she prepares for going to Russia to represent GBR in her age category at the Europeans Championships, Eden finished 2nd in age category & 60th out of 1000s. Eden stated she really enjoyed it despite having an issue with her wetsuit zipper costing about 2 minutes in transition, Eden still achieved a PB from last year.
Staffordshire Half Ironman:
Sunday the 9th of June saw the Staffordshire half Ironman event which two MBH members Philip McNevin & Graham Storer take on the 1.2mile swim, 56mile cycle, 13.10 run.

Saltash Half Marathon:
Sunday the 9th of June saw Julie Bolitho took part in this event. On a very hilly course & hot weather Julie was happy to finish in 2:51:22.
