A busy end of October/ beginning of November

The end of October & start of November was a busy week for the Harriers with various races in different parts of the UK.

The Cornish Marathon took place on Sunday 3rd November. Renowned for its tough road route over Bodmin Moor, the storm on the Saturday caused flooding on the course resulting in the route being altered to an out & back which was just as tough as the original route. The event started in bright sunshine but the rain soon returned making the race a real challenge. In spite of this, the three Harriers there all had excellent races. Tim Twiggs was first Harrier back in 3.12.23 giving him 3rd in his age group. Paul Angove was aiming for a sub-4 hour race & was delighted to finish in 3.51.57. Julie Bolitho was pleased with her 6 minute pb time of 5.21.21. The Cornish Marathon was Race 15 in the GP series & Julie has completed all 15 events this season.

Sunday also saw the Bideford 10 miler in North Devon. Four Mounts Bay Harriers took part. Thankfully the weather was kinder in Devon although there was a large puddle left on the course which runners had to run through. As always the event was well organised & Marshalled. First Mounts Bay Harrier to finish was Richard Alford in 1:03:23, slightly outside his goal time but still a result to be proud of. He was followed by Stuart Backhouse in 1:16:13, Damian Cook in 1:26:33 & Claire Backhouse in 1:41:08.

Also on Sunday Mum and daughter Glover Duo took part in two different races in Marlow. Rachel took part in Marlow 7 miler and Ruth took part in Marlow half marathon. Both of these races started on Marlow high street and finished in Marlow sports field. The half marathon and 7 miler started at the same time, after 2.5 miles the two races separated and went in different directions.
Both races were tough with plenty of hills to climb, Ruth commented that she really enjoyed the last mile or so as it was all down hill then flat to the finish line. Over all both Glovers really enjoyed their races and commented how well the events were put together and how friendly everyone was. Both of the Glover ladies were pleased with their times that they completed their races in.
