This event was attended by one Mounts Bay Harrier member Eden Elisabeth Backhouse. In order to compete at this event Eden had to qualify through the British Triathlon organisations in order to represent Team GB at the Championships. The event its self took place in Kazan Russia on the 28th of July. As a sprint distance Triathlon competitors would compete over a 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run. Eden completed this in 1hour 16mins, Eden stated that she had a cracking swim coming out pretty high up, managed to stay with an Austrian for first 6 miles of the bike until being spat out but picked back up by a follow GB athlete where we had a good rotation going on and managed to keep our positions from the swim. Unfortunately Eden feels this season hasn’t been the best for running off the bike and she didn’t have a great run. However Eden was buzzed to finish and have a good performance on the swim/bike and knows what she needs to focus on now, so onwards and upwards. Eden’s reward for all her hard work is that she finished in 5th for her age group 20-24 and 24th female overall in the hole of Europe excluding the professionals. We at Mounts Bay Harries are super proud of this young lady and are sure the future will hold main more amazing achievements for her.
