The Blue Button Run 2011, a Multi Charity race, will be taking place on
Sunday 3rd July 2011 at Trannack Community School in Lowertown, Helston.
The run consists of a 10K and two fun runs – a 3.5 mile run and a 1
mile walk for mothers/fathers and children in pushchairs. The 10K is for
children over 15 years of age and the other races will accommodate all
the other ages. The warm up is at 09.50 am with the race starting at
Registration for the race is from 08.00 am to 09.30 am and you can
register on the day. The race is affiliated and course measured with UK
Athletics. The cost is ?10.00 for the 10K race, but the fun runs are
suggested donations of ?5.00. The proceeds of the race will be split
equally between all the charities and we are a non profit making group.
The Charities include Diabetes UK, Lupus UK, Help for Heroes,
Shelterbox, Trannack Community School and Team Type One from America.
Organ Donation Cards will also be handed out on the day, in an aim to
get more people signed up to the register as currently there are over
10,000 people awaiting transplants in the United Kingdom. One of the
people awaiting a transplant is Naila Henry, a staff nurse working at
West Cornwall Hospital, who has organised this event.
“I suffer from two chronic illnesses, but I am fit and able” says
Naila. “I run 40 miles a week and cycle, swim and horse ride despite
being ill and this has benefited me in controlling my illnesses. The
idea is to change the mind set of people that having a transplant does
not automatically mean that you are dying, it just means that you have
an organ that does not work and it needs replacing which in my case is
my pancreas. The charities also want to encourage people to get up and
start exercising because having an illness does not automatically mean
that you no longer do any form of physical activity.”
If people want to take part in this race, please contact email Naila on
email@example.com?for an application forms and sponsorship forms
or please send a SAE to 8 Belmont Road, Helston, Cornwall TR13 8UA.
Alternatively, you can enter on the day. There are prizes donated by AT
YOUR PACE, Dorset Cereals and Furniss Foods to prize winners and all
finishers will get a medal and a goody bag and trophies and tee shirts
to selected people who fit our fun trophy criteria.
