Just a quick reminder that the Brown Willy Run will start, as usual, at 11.00 a.m. on New Year?s Day, from outside Jamaica Inn. It remains the definitive hangover cure for all runners. Please tell all your club mates ? the more the merrier.
For those not familiar with the event, it?s a well signed informal run (not a race unless you want to make it one) of about 7 miles, mostly on open moorland, which may be wet, slippery, boggy or frozen, and it?s steep in places. Even when it doesn?t feel too cold at Jamaica Inn, it may be freezing and blowing a gale on the top of Brown Willy. Please come appropriately clothed and shod. Although it?s for all standards of runner, it is for runners, not strollers, and we will slowly start to dismantle the course from the top of Brown Willy at about 12.00, following the last runners back to Jamaica Inn by about 13.00.
There is no entry fee, just a request to consider a generous donation in our charity box. Half the proceeds will be going to the Cornwall Search & Rescue Team, who turn out every year to ensure our safety. Registration is just inside the pub next to the car park. Please register before the run by filling out your name and emergency contact number, then tick the ?Out? box, and on your return, please just tick the ?Back? box, so that we know you?re safe.
Jamaica Inn generously open their doors to us, and I would ask everyone to be considerate, and change out of muddy footwear and clothing before coming back into the pub. A warm welcome will await you by the crackling log fire in the front bar, and you can compare notes with friends over a pint or a meal.
In short, it?s the perfect way to start the New Year. A Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you all.
