Who we are...

Mounts Bay Harriers are the newest local Running, Triathlon and Athletics Club in Penwith, being set up by local triathletes and runners in June 2005. The club meets at Mounts Bay School every Monday at 7pm for social runs of varying lengths, with structured coached sessions at various locations on Thursdays at 7:00pm. (best to e-mail first)

...and what we do!

The club now has over 200 members and regularly has 20-30 turning up for training sessions. Of the group that turn out there is always a wide standard of athletes from beginners, who are especially welcome, to accomplished triathletes and runners. The club also has a large junior section who meet on Friday nights at "The Dome" at Mounts Bay School, Heamoor.

South West XC Championships 2012

Please find enclosed entry form for the South West Cross-Country Championships, together with a course map and timetable. Those who wish to enter online can do so at http://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2012/

The Midland Countries office will again be handling entries for this event, and please make sure that your entries are in by the closing date.

About the Event
This South West Cross-Country Championships draws runners from across the South West, and always provides thrilling races, the standard of which can rival the better known Southern and Midlands championships. This year’s event will again be held at Bicton Agricultural College, near Exmouth. With rolling hills and an ornamental lake as a backdrop, this provides a scenic as well as a tough challenge. Race lengths are slightly short of the major championship distances, in recognition of the terrain and the fact that, for most participants, this is the first race following the Christmas break.

The format accommodates an inter-county (Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire) as well as a club championship, and for many youngsters this will be their first experience of an inter-county event. However, the relative informality compared to the UK and Schools Championships provides a great way of introducing new athletes to a higher standard of competition. Many experienced runners use the event as a ‘warm-up’ for the regional and national championship event which come in the following months.

School and college teams are welcome. However, since this is principally a club and county event, school and college aged athletes who are members of a club team should be entered by, and compete for their club.

As well as a championships, the South West Cross-Country is also used as a selection event for South West teams competing in the London Mini-Marathon (U13/U15/U17) and Cardiff Cross-Challenge (U20 and Senior). The precise selection criteria for these teams will be announced nearer the time, and will also consider other performances.

England Athletics Registration Numbers
England Athletics are tightening up on the use of Registration Numbers, so please start checking early that you have these numbers to hand! Your club membership secretary should be able to easily find these out through the club portal. See www.englandathletics.org/affiliation for useful guidance on club affiliation, athlete registration and using the club portal. School teams do not need to provide these numbers.

Dual First Claim Membership and Lapsed Members
Where runners are first claim members of more than one club (e.g. partner clubs catering for complementary disciplines), the England Athletics registration system can record the different clubs. However, this is sometimes not up-to-date, in which case your club membership secretary should contact Athletics Services on 0121 713 8400 or at affiliation@athleticsservices.org.uk.

Where a runner’s membership has lapsed on the registration scheme (after a year of inactivity) , they will need to apply to Athletics Services to have it reinstated. This can’t be done through the club portal.

Athletics services are very helpful and usually respond very quickly, but approaching Christmas and if there is a sudden flood of queries, sorting these things out might take a few days. Please don’t wait until the closing date to start chasing up the numbers!

Neil Miller

Coose Trannack Schools Cross Country

Dear Teacher / Organiser / Parent,

I have the pleasure of inviting the children of your school / club to the 10th annual running of ‘Coose  Trannack Cross Country Races’ on Saturday am 6th March 2010.

The event is held in Coose Trannack Woodland adjacent to Trannack School (nr Helston). It is a millennium wood with fantastic views over the Lizard Peninsular & the course is sloping and challenging.

The event is independent from the cross-country leagues and is open to all children of all abilities from infants through to secondary school (Yr R to Yr 11).

Please find enclosed an information sheet (see link below) that should answer any questions that you have.
It would be helpful to the organisation of the event if you could send a quick early e-mail back if your school or club intends to come along - and then you can send in your registration form with the names of the children closer to the event.

Please note the following main changes to the organisation this year:-

1 / All competitors will be given a race number on the day to wear which will be used to record the race results. This will mean that it will be no longer be necessary for the competitors to report their position to the registration office after the race.

2 / Though the boys and girls will race together, there will be a staggered start so that they will set off separately.

3/ The lucky dip treat will remain, but there will also be a free piece of fruit for all competitors.

4 / We have had to increase the entry fee this year to £1-50 (previously £1) due to increased costs.

5 / There will not be a separate programme produced this year - all of the information on the event is now in the Information sheet.

We hope you can come along and enjoy and look forward to welcoming your child / children on March 6th

Meet your Max (new venue) - Wednesday, 25 June 2008

June 25, 2008
7:15 pm

VENUE  Registration, Start & Finish, Presentations and Catering at TRURO R.F.C. Clubhouse, St Clement Hill, Truro.

A 10k multi-terrain race around the Pencalenick Estate and Park Farm at St Clement, close to Truro.

COURSE  From the same team that brought you the old Max of which the course was said to be  the best in Cornwall – we hope this one will be seen as a worthy successor, providing 10Km of true multi-terrain. Starting on grass on the rugby ground (good for spectators ), the first ¾ mile on the road is designed to spread the field, before taking to the woodland paths of Pencalenick. After that there are short lengths of tarmac, but it is predominantly off-road. Leaving the woods, after the odd wet place, it’s along the old stone metalled riverside drive to St Clement.  The route then takes to the woods and field paths of Denas Road, still following the river, into Malpas. Turning for home, after a steep climb to Park Lane, it’s mixed grass tracks and paths down into the valley before climbing back to Park Lane, and then, after a steep descent to the next valley, it’s a long gentle climb to the finish at the Rugby Club. Trail type shoes would be useful.
