Who we are...

Mounts Bay Harriers are the newest local Running, Triathlon and Athletics Club in Penwith, being set up by local triathletes and runners in June 2005. The club meets at Mounts Bay School every Monday at 7pm for social runs of varying lengths, with structured coached sessions at various locations on Thursdays at 7:00pm. (best to e-mail first)

...and what we do!

The club now has over 200 members and regularly has 20-30 turning up for training sessions. Of the group that turn out there is always a wide standard of athletes from beginners, who are especially welcome, to accomplished triathletes and runners. The club also has a large junior section who meet on Friday nights at "The Dome" at Mounts Bay School, Heamoor.

Redruth Mini Tri - Saturday, 10 September 2011

I still need some marshals for Redruth Mini Triathlon on 10th September. If you could ask around your members I would be grateful.

Also we are over 60% full so if any of your juniors were thinking of entering I would advise them to do it sooner rather than later.

Thank you

MBH Penzance Junior Aquathlon 2011

Well done to all who took part today.

120 children entered the sixth Penzance Junior Aquathlon hosted by Mounts Bay Harriers. The majority of the competitors came from clubs in West Cornwall but some did travel from distances farther afield – Sale in Cheshire being the furthest – together with a huge team of 17 from St Petrocs School in Bude brought by teacher and endurance athlete Bob Brown.

Weather was good and grass was cut during the race!

Some categories were hotly contended with only seconds between some athletes. Parents had to be calmed down due to the high running of emotions. Children thought lost on the course but who had actually finished before the parents realised was just one of the things that marshals had to deal with.

In the 8-year-old category, Betsy Peters of St Ives Bay Swimming Club was 30 seconds ahead of second placed girl Lilly Hardy of St Ives SLSC and St Uny School. Third, also of St Uny, was Elsey Kirby. For the boys, Sam Perkin of St Ives SLSC & St Uny School was first, with Mounts Bay Harriers Owen Ringwood and Wesley Eddy in second and third place respectively.

For the 9-10-year-olds Imogen Wood of Mounts Bay Harriers was a runaway victory finishing one minute ahead of Sarah Wilson of Cornwall AC, Carn Brea SC & Portreath SLSC. Sofia Rescorla-Brown of Penzance Swimming Club was third. Toby Osborne of Penzance Swimming Club took first place for the boys, with Mounts Bay Harriers Josh May and Harris Eddy following in second and third places.

The 11-12-year-old category was close with Francesca Brint of Sale Harriers coming in first, just three seconds ahead of joint second placed runners Ellie Ringwood and Katie Walker, both of Mounts Bay Harriers. The boys field was a bit more spread out with Max Caddy of Mounts Bay Harriers first, followed by Charlie Coulthard of St Ives Bay Swimming Club and Finn Burford also of Mounts Bay Harriers.

13-14-year-old Emily Attfield of Team Certini was over a minute-and-a-half ahead of Carn Brea Swimming Club’s Vicky Burlingham, with Myah Harrison of Mounts Bay Harriers finishing in third place. Jacob Wood of Mounts Bay Harriers was over two minutes ahead of second placed Daniel Brint of Sale Harriers with Liam Jolly of Carn Brea Swimming Club in third place.

The 15-16-year old girls were more sensibly spread out with Amy Jolly of Carn Brea Swimming Club finishing in first place, followed by Racheal Wilson of Portreath SLSC & Carn Brae SC with Lauren Cripps of Mounts Bay Harriers in third place. Matthew Trewhella of Redruth School / Gyllivase SLSC came out of the swim well ahead of Mounts Bay Harrier Thomas Wood but had to sprint for the line to finish just in front of Tom. Dan Harman, also of Mounts Bay Harriers?, was third.

And, of course, a big thank you to all the marshals who turned up today and helped out! A thankless task at times…..

Many thanks also to Brandon Tool Hire for their continued support in lending us the metal stakes.

Our next event is the Jubilee Pool Aquathlon on Wednesday, 27 July 2011 at 7pm. All ages over 13 are welcome – just turn up on the night to Swim the Triangle and Run the Prom!
