The new St Austell Triathlon Club were out in force for the fifth holding of Charlestown Fun Triathlon.? A lovely little event comprising of a 200 metre sea swim, 3 mile bike and 2 mile run!
The swim was extended slightly to the second beach due to the low tide.? I had one swimmer, who started in the water next to me, heading out to a buoy some 200 metres away.? I don’t think he listened at the?race briefing.? The thing was, the canoeists let him go!!
Once out of the swim you run across two stony beaches, up some steps and then up a hill to the transition area which is in front of the Charlestown Shipwreck Centre/Bosun’s Diner.? A good 300 metres at least!
Onto the bike and then uphill for 1.5 miles, turnaround in the middle of the road and back down again for a fast descent back into the village.
The run is just the same route as the bike, only shorter, ie 1 mile uphill, turnaround and then back down again.?
The atmosphere is great as it is the first day of the Charlestown Regatta.? Claire Best, who organises this event, just keeps on improving it year on year.
First male and female both came from St Austell Tri – Shaun Scrace and Liz Lusty respectively.
Quite a few of the competitors will be taking part in Indian Queens Half tomorrow and were using this event as a warm up (me included)!
