Mounts Bay Harriers were out in force for the Classic Quarter, this is an ultra marathon of 44 miles from Lizard Point to Land’s End – all on the South West coast path which makes it a very challenging event. This year, the lovely warm weather caused additional challenges making the event tougher. The Classic Quarter is renowned for its friendly atmosphere & it was great to see runners from all over the uk & world running, chatting & supporting each other.
The event can be done solo or in relay teams of 2 or 4.
A number of Harriers took on the challenge of the 44 miles with the first one home being Simon Green in an excellent time of 9.38.07. Heidi Swaby was the next one in 10.27.20 – this was Heidi’s second ultra marathon in 3 weeks & she was delighted with her finishing time. This was Caleb Munday’s first ultra race & he finished in a good time of 12.10.17.
In the relay pairs, Harriers had two teams – Paul Angove & Stuart Thomson who, despite some injury problems finished in a very respectable 9.26.52. With Helen Dobson & Rachel Thomson finishing in 11.03.29.
In the relay 4 teams, the first team including Harriers was a mixed club team of Dan Kingston, Michael Birchmore, Jacob Wood & Barrie Prowse finishing in 6.32.15. They were closely followed by the first full team of Harriers to finish – Jeremy Marston, Rachel Tresider, Andrew Hickson & Pete Scrivens in a speedy 6.46.07 which was 5th place in the 4 relay teams & a result to be very proud of.
