Mounts Bay Harriers sent a large team of over 50 runners to the small village of Cubert , near to Holywell Bay , on Tuesday 5th June for their annual 5 mile road race which is event number 7 of the Cornwall Glass Cornwall Road Racing Series.
This race is extremely popular , and is regarded as the flattest and fastest event on the road racing circuit. The course started in the middle of the village , and incorporated 2 laps of Cubert , with just a small uphill section of 400 yards which went past the village school in the middle of the race.
Over 770 runners were on the start line ; and all of the Harriers ran very well , with several athletes achieving personal bests for the 5 mile distance. Special mention and congratulations need to go to Peter LeGrice who ran a fantastic race to finish 2nd overall in an incredible time of 25:23 , which also earned him 2nd place in his male under 35 age category.
The other Mounts Bay award winners who ran superb races to earn podium finishes in their respective age groups were :
Karen McClay – 2nd in female 50 to 54 age cat
John Doyle – 3rd in male 60 to 64 age cat
