A good sized group of Mounts Bay Harriers runners took part in one of Cornwall’s biggest running events on sunday morning …. The Eden Project Marathon and Half Marathon.
Both races are extremely challenging , involving both on-road and off-road terrain , with part of the marathon course involving a section across Bodmin Moor.
Rachel Thomson and Helen Dobson deserve special recognition for completing the marathon race in a good time of 5 hours and 22 minutes , and ran all of the race together & supporting each other all the way. Both ladies said that they thoroughly enjoyed the race , and loved the whole marathon experience.
All of the harriers who ran the half marathon ran very well , though some of the leading runners were accidentally sent in the wrong direction by a marshalling error just over half way round the course. The first harrier to finish was Stuart Thomson who finished 26th overall , out of over 840 starters , in an excellent time of 1:39:31.
Pete LeGrice , representing Cornwall in a half marathon race at the South West county championship meet at Exeter on sunday morning , ran an incredible race to win the overall event in a superb personal best time of 1:06:25.
Neil Eddy excelled at the World Ironman Championship in Kona. A fantastic all-round performance saw Neil complete the Ironman which consists of a 2 mile swim ; 112 mile cycle ride and then a marathon race of 26.2 miles in a brilliant time of 8 hours and 45 minutes ; which placed him 8th out of 186 in his age group.
