The annual Turkey Trot Race, part of the GP series took place on Wednesday 3rd July. The fast 4 mile race saw a good turnout from the Harriers with the Ladies Team of Emily Sturgess, Tracey Nicholls, Janet Haynes, Ruth Glover, Sue Mathews & Marie Cann winning a team prize. John McWilliams was the first Harrier back in 22.19, 30 seconds faster than his time last year. A number of other Harriers won age group prizes –
Chunky Penhaul – 1st in his Age Category.
Geoff Letcford – 1st in his Age Category.
Tracey Nicholls – 1st in Age Category.
Janet Haynes – 3rd in Age Category.
On a beautiful Saturday evening, locals & holiday makers gathered for the 21st St Ives biathlon. The Harriers had a number club members taking part in the various biathlon events & all agreed they were well organised & the sea was a pleasure to swim in, being flat & clear.
In the open event which comprised a 2K fast but hilly run to Carbis Bay followed by a 1.5k swim back to the slipway by the Sloop Inn, Neil Eddy was winner in 36.16 making this the 10th year running that he has achieved this – a great achievement for him. Sasha Osborne won the supervets group with Janet Haynes second in this category. In the novice event, Karen MClay was delighted with her 6th place overall in a time of 25.44.
Several Harriers Junior girls competed in the biathlon as well. Rosie and Jaz did the juniors event with a 800 metre run followed buy a 800 metre sea swim from Porthminster back to the slip in St Ives. In their under 16 age group, they finished in
15.21 and 17.36. Alis-me competed in the mini biathlon coming second in the 9 year olds.
Out on the Roseland, Peninsula a cloudy but warm Sunday morning, Jacob woods, Karen McClay, Caleb Munday and Zoe Cocksedge competed in the Mad Hatters beautiful Caerhays sprint triathlon. Conditions were perfect conditions with a calm sea. The swim was meant to be 1 km but ended up slightly longer 1.3 km followed by a bike 21km cycle & a 6k run. Jacob was 3rd overall in 1:38:23, Zoe came 5th female( 3rd overall in age group) in 2:01:57, Caleb finished on 2:06:15, 33 male and Karen finished 14 female (2nd in her age group) 2:15:16. Zoe said this was a really well organised event & lots of fun.
Sunday 7th July saw the 5th event in the intotri series – Wadebridge triathlon, four Mounts Bay Harriers, Rachel Glover, Ruth Glover, Rebecca Wilding and Tom Berryman traveled up to Wadebridge to take on this event, for some it was a re visit and some their first times at this particular event. Rachel Glover took on Wadebridge tri super sprint, this was the second event of the series for Rachel, she commented saying that she really enjoyed the cycle route, Rachel got first place in her age group which she was really pleased with.
Ruth Glover had one of her fastest times, just missing out on top 3 and coming 4th. At present, Ruth is 1st in her age group over all. Tom Berryman enjoyed the event £& had a strong race finishing 12th overall in 1.18 whilst Rebecca Wilding in her first triathlon, finished in 1.40.
There were 5 Harriers juniors at the Wadebridge triathlon. Gabriel and Aria both taking silver in the U8’s category. Tama, Sawyer and Jolie all had fantastic races on a very humid Sunday afternoon. The Junior team want to thanks Ruth and Ronnie for their support!
The Juniors meet Fridays at Mounts Bay School from 6pm.
