Helston Triathlon 2011

imgp0328Just a quick report before I forget about the day! As usual Ceri had ordered the conditions, dry and sunny, although the later competitors probably found it a little more windy in places than the early starters (note to self, lie about swim time next year)
A little longer run this year with the ‘extra’ bit to run around the roundabout, but no excuses I was two and a half minutes down on last year, not quite as fit, more training required!
A massive entry from MBH and hopefully all enjoyed – great technical shirt as a giveaway – it definately helps to get sponsors to shoulder some of the costs (At Your Pace, Cyclelogic and Outback Trading bought the trophies)
Full results to come but the race was won by ex Harrier Matt Stokold, who, after a 2 year lay off, taking up the crazy sport of free diving, has decided that risking life holding your breath for 15 minutes is a lot harder and riskier than swim, bike run! he now races for Royal Navy and is a real talent, 2nd was Michael Birchmore and 3rd Matt Pullen.
Ladies it was Anne Maskell first, not bad for a?45-49 age grouper, 2nd Alice Nicholas MBH and 3rd I can’t remember, sorry
As for MBH silverware winners – we had;
Gus Gusterson – 1st vet 40-44 and 2nd local
Jason Walker – 2nd vet 40-44
Ian Matthews – 3rd vet 45-49
Nick Brooks – 1st vet 50-54
Matt Lawless – 3rd local
We also got 2nd mens team with Gus, Jason and Matt
As for the ladies I will try and remember
Alice Nicholas – 2nd overall
Liz Prady – 3rd, 55-59
Helen Webb – 1st local lady
Jo Lawless? -2nd (?) local lady
Apologies, as I know I’ve missed a few.
It’s still not out who won the smack down between Swiss and Richard B, so we will just have to wait till hopefully tomorrow when the full results will be published.
Many thanks to Ceri and her crew for once again putting on a great event.
I’ve had no news of the poor chap who came a cropper on his bike but I believe he is being kept in Treliske overnight for observation.
So thats it for me, Helen, Swiss and Andrew till 2 weeks time for 70.3 – can’t get any fitter now, so just have to watch my weight and what I eat and drink for a fortnight!
Wimbleball here we come!
