Mounts Bay Harriers have yet another member joining the Ironman contingent.
Tim Drew (31) has just completed the Ironman UK Triathlon in Sherbourne, Dorset this weekend. It consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. He completed the swim in 59 minutes, the bike in 5 hours 57 mins and the run (a full marathon!) in 3 hours 36 mins – a total time of 10 hours 44 mins and came 25th in his Age Group out of 211. No mean feat for his first Ironman!! Tim has only been competing in triathlon for the past two years and has already this year completed the Marazion Middle Distance Triathlon (a half Ironman) in which he came 7th overall and the Hayle Standard Distance when he came 10th overall. The past few months have seen Tim running and cycling all over Penwith. No matter what the weather he was out on his bike cycling along the A30 to Lands End, then onto St Just and the coast road to St Ives and then back again to Penzance – and then he’d do all over again! Swimming consisted of regular swims in Mounts Bay and at Penzance Leisure Centre. Kaz, his wife, has hardly seen him recently! Tim now has his sights on Ironman Switzerland next year. Tim has just taken over the coffee shop at the top of Chapel Street, Penzance, with his wife Kaz. Pop in for a chat about his achievement!
