Results here for the first Mounts Bay Harriers Jubilee Pool Aquathlon held on Wednesday, 25 June 2008.
Neil Eddy took first place despite not being able to do the zip up on the back of his tri suit. I did suggest that he ran without it, but he didn’t seem to go with that idea!
Sue Ogilvie of Newquay Road Runners was first woman home. It’s good to see her back on the scene.
45 competitors took part, with 30 entering on the night. The weather was sunny but windy, with a slight nip in the air (and in the water, judging by the reaction of those who got in and were expecting something slightly warmer!)
A decision was taken to only have one swimmer per lane and this proved to be quite successful especially for those who are used to swimming in a indoor swimming pool with lines down the middle! Quite a few people swum a lot further than necessary due to zig-zagging down their lane!
The run route had to be adjusted due to the fair setting up right outside but this didn’t seem to affect the race at all. The route along Penzance Promenade meant that there was a head wind all the way out and a tail wind all the way back!
It was great to see so many 13-20 year olds taking part, the first finisher of which was Sam Whittaker for the men and Charlotte Hurst for the ladies.
Mounts Bay Harriers had 22 entrants quite a few of which marshalled as well as took part.
Many thanks for all who supported this event by either taking part, marshalling or spectating. It was great to see so many people at Jubilee Pool. We hope to see you all at the next Jubilee Pool event on Wednesday, 30 July 2008 at 7pm.
The next Mounts Bay Harriers’ event is on Sunday, 13 July 2008 at Penzance Leisure Centre when the Children’s Aquathlon takes place. Go here for further details.
