What a way to start the Jubilee Pool Aquathlon Series!
60 competitors took part in the first race?of the series in glorious sunshine, most of?whom entered on the night.? No wind, rain, cold, etc, like last year…. Even the water in the pool wasn’t as cold as everyone was expecting – well it was solar heated! (I did do a lap of the pool beforehand without a wetsuit, just to make sure it wasn’t too cold.)
With the new system of starting the swimmers every 30 seconds and swimming clockwise around the triangle of the pool, everyone was through in 30 minutes – it seemed to run like clockwork.?
The overall race was won by David Bartlett of Gyllyngvase SLSC in 13:36, closely followed by MBH’s Kyle Kearey in 13:57 (and this was after spending the day at Wharfside Shopping Centre raising funds for the Precious Lives Appeal?by climbing up and down ladders the equivalent of the height of Everest with Penzance Fire Brigade!)?.? Third place was taken by David Pell (Cornwall AC)?in 14:22.
For the women, first went to 14-year-old Melissa Blake-Lomax (Newquay and Par AC)?in 16:03 (who had talked her Mum, Jill, into taking part), second Kay Kershaw (At?Your Pace running shop, Helston)?in 16:45 and third Clare Hudson from Perranworthal in?17:20.
If anyone didn’t receive a memento of a red water bottle then please let us know and we will get one to you.
Hope to see everyone at the next event on Wednesday, 24 June 2009 at 7pm.
Many thanks to all the marshals who turned up to help – both those who were on the list and those who weren’t!
