Four Mounts Bay Harriers, Dave Austin, Phil McNevin, Tammy Rosewall and Yvonne Turner together with Graham Storer and Becky Gower took part in the inaugural Fire and Ice Half Marathon held around the grounds of the National Trust?s Lanhydrock House near Bodmin. The race was to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, Help for Heroes and Children with Leukaemia. Over 200 competitors took part.
The day started off very foggy and cool but the sun soon burnt that off and it turned into a glorious Spring day with temperatures reaching over 24C, which a lot of runners found difficult to deal with after training in cool conditions for so long.
About five minutes before the start Yvonne found out that dogs were allowed to run and, together with Graham Storer of Cornwall AC, they quickly got two of their dogs ready to run the half marathon.
The run was hot and hilly but everyone got round the course including the dogs!
Well done to the Fire Fighters for a very well organised event and good luck with their Fire and Ice Challenge in 2012.
