Marazion 10K – 2012 – What a Morning!!

mounts-bay-10k77 Mounts Bay Harriers turned out this morning to run the Marazion 10K ? I?ll get this moan out of the way now! If you?re not going to run, and you haven?t told me, it?s a little unfair for Sue and I to be waiting around at registration for you to show ? surely a phone call or a text? It?s gonna cost you ?12.50 I?m afraid and I may even introduce a future club entry ban ? very selfish!!
Anyway we managed to get as many as we could in a quick club photo, even the Cornishman bloke took one so look out it there this week!
Well, back to it, the forecast snow / rain didn?t materialise thank heavens and the weather was a lot warmer than it looked or was forecast to be, I think some found that they were slightly over dressed as soon as they approached the first hill! It was a brilliant sight to see so many red, black and white vests run today ? approaching 11 o?clock 500 runners lined up behind the starting line, only to be instructed to part like the red sea as the lead motorbike had somehow found itself at the back of the pack?!?!? School boy error me thinks! Anyway soon rectified off went the gun, caught a few off guard and the slow shuffle started ? rant number 2 approaching ? please running club coaches, try and educate your runners on self seeding! Why oh why does someone who has never broken the hour for a 10K plonk themselves right at the front!?!? Ay ay ay, the mind boggles as they swear when the faster runners elbow their way through, take the hint, move back further from the starting line PLEASE!!
An early lead by the fast boys but soon Pete LeGrice (who told me he hadn?t done a lot of speed work lately!) took on the pace at the front with Noel Kindon, Justin Thomas, Colin Snook, Richard Pascoe and Emma Stepto, YES Emma Stepto, she is amazing! A woman, over 40 and still managed to finish 6th overall in a time of 34.52! I still think she?d look better in black, red and white!
There were a few in club battles taking place as the results show, but special mention go to new member Matthew Hulse, Junior members Taiyo Omori, Jack Hands (first ever race) and Thomas Wood, Mel Ringwood, Sue Johns, Dan Harvey, Pippa Pyrah, Scott Richards and Jenny Clayton for their first race ? also great to see Gus, Shawn, Mhairi , Carol and Rachel back in the fold after injury lay offs, Along with Mhairi, Carol, Rachel Nancy and Alice, and the ever improving Charlotte Davey, these 6 ladies, as a team, in a short race, came in a fantastic second placed team! (we actually had first team in the Duchy marathon once)
I was going to put in here about how I was following two ladies who had obviously borrowed their daughters shorty shorts but I?m thinking better of it (Di and Karen, LOL)
Mark was doing his Riverdance thing, running his first 10K in his barefoot running shoes, but this paled into insignificance if you saw that lady completely barefooted, no shoes, no socks! just feeling the shite between the toes, LOVERLY! RESPECT!
That last hill is always a killer, and as soon as I finished (which was better than I hoped but not as fast as I used to be!) I trotted down the hill to cheer on those still finishing ? I?m going to reprimand and award a yellow card here to John Greenaway who decided to have a chat to Richard Hurst (CAC, Charlottes dad) ALL THE WAY ROUND, I think they even crossed the line holding hands as they have the same time? ? IT?S A RACE!!
Our mens team, led home by of course Pete LeGrice, who won the race 40 seconds in front of his nearest rival in 32.37 ? came a respectable 3rd place!! Team consisted of Pete, Neil eddy (8th) Gus Gusterson, Rich savage, Matt Lawless and Geoff Letchford.

The other silverware winners from Mounts Bay were
Mhairi Saville 1st female under 35
Alice Nicholas 2nd female under 35
Rachel Tresidder ? 1st female 35-39
Sue Taylor 1st female 55-59
Geoff Letchford ? 1st male 55-59
Roger Randall ? 3rd male 55 ? 59
Dave Austin ? 3rd male 65-69
Great to see Joanne Lawless, who will hopefully have her and Matts baby very soon, (not April 8th please as Matt will be racing Penzance Tri) for those of you don?t know who Jo is, she?s the whizzkid behind the clubs PBs stats!

Thanks to HRR, well organised, well marshalled, great hoodies, they weren’t green and they fit! but what was the fluffly kangaroo all about? and after Craigs on stage comment about how our mens AND ladies team beat theirs it made all the more sweeter! lol

So, as a closing note, I?d just like to say a big thankyou to all who raced today, the circuits and speed sessions are paying off as the PBs are coming in thick and fast. The next GP race is the Duchy marathon and I know marathon virgin Paul Angove will be hoping to pop his cherry, Hopefully Clive Hibberts back will be better and we should have a few others running ? if not then it?s An Res, but this falls on the same day as the Penzance Sport relief Mile event that we are hosting, Sue will not be pleased if you can?t marshal!
Oh and finally, to continue racing and attending the best and friendliest club in Penwith, your membership is due if you haven?t paid it already! Download a membership renewal form from the MBH website in the ?join us? section! Love you all, see you in a few weeks, Rhianna is calling! (All the way from Barbados)
