The weather was kind to the triathletes this year (it couldn’t get any worse than last year!) It was a bit nippy at 7am when 111 triathletes went into the sea but as the day went on it warmed up nicely.
The first swimmer, Nathan Jolly (Tri Logic), was out in a time of 27 minutes for a 2,000 metre sea swim. The last swimmer took one hour!!
The 86km (56 mile) bike took the triathletes on a scenic trip from Marazion to Lands End, then to St Just (two laps) and then back to Marazion via Goldsithney. The fastest time for this was Robert Willcocks (Team Certini) in a time of 2 hours 22 mins (and he had raced the day before!!).
Finally onto the run section – a half marathon. Nathan came into transition 3 minutes ahead of the eventual winner, Declan Doyle, who had a storming run to finish 6 minutes ahead of Nathan in a total time of 4 hours 11 minutes!! (The final competitor crossed the line in 7 hours 36 mins – which included fixing two punctures!!)
Well done to all MBH that took part:
Tim Drew – 7th overall, 5th in age group plus First Local – 4 hours 28 mins
Matt Stokeld – 12th overall – 4 hours 33 mins
Shawn Gimbert – 64th overall – 5 hours 23 mins
Bad luck to Scott who pulled out due to illness on the morning of the race – we wish you a speedy recovery!
