The weekend of 14/15th saw a numbers of Harriers taking on the marathon & half marathon distance in various locations.
Furthest away from Cornwall in sunny Lisbon, six Harriers participated in The Rock and Roll Marathon festival. Taking on the full distance of 26.2 miles were Stuart & Claire Backhouse, Nigel Sims & Heidi Swaby. Mother & son Amanda & Thomas Prosser ran the half marathon. All successfully completed their race although the heat was more of a challenge than the mileage according to Claire.
Nearer to home, Helen & Mark Squire competed in the Leicester half marathon. The husband & wife team finished in 2.24 & 2.08 respectively .
Back in Cornwall, the Harriers fielded a large team for The Eden full & half marathon. These hilly events start & finish at The Eden Project and is the largest running event in Cornwall. The weather conditions were perfect on the day, cloudy but mild with virtually no wind.
In the half marathon, Peter Le Grice was the winner in a very fast 1.13.16. Gary Richards was the second male Harrier back in 1.30.49 and also second in his age group. Peter & Gary, together with Stuart Thomson & Ian Tucker were delighted to be placed as second male team.
In the ladies race, Emma Richards was the first Harrier lady in 2.00.29. Emma was pleased with her time although she would have liked to be below the two hours, the Harriers ladies of Emma, Rebecca Wilding, Susie Taylor & Michelle Collinson were the third ladies team. Susie Taylor was also third in her age group.
In the marathon, two Harriers tackled the hilly 26.2 miles – Jan Wolf finished in a respectable 3.42.31 with Steve Richards completing the course in 4.19.09.
