What a scorcher! and that was the weather not the race! my god it was hot!
31 Mounts Bay Harriers joined 514 other runners for this years Newquay 10K – with promises of an excellent T shirt AND goody bag I dosed up with ibuprofen, against doctors orders and headed for the race (or was it to get out of the decorating that was on my jobby list Sue had left me whilst she is swanning off in Spain?)
Pete LeGrice was going be our strongest runner but with a few England runners on the start list he wasn’t going to have it easy.
The gun went and we all ran off, my run / walk strategy lasted about 2 seconds as testosterone took over and off I went. First couple of miles felt OK but after that it was agony – still finished but a good 5 minutes off a PB for me.
Back to the race…….The penultimate GP race of 2011, with only the Cornish marathon to go, and a few of our runners are fighting for GP AG placings, Rich Savage, Nancy Hill, Rachel Tresidder and Clive Hibbert
I’m pleased to say that all ran well today with Rich Savage winning his AG, Nancy 2nd, Rachel 2nd and Clive 3rd, mens and ladies team both finished 5th (next year ladies we will need 6 for a team! go ask some friends to come running with us!)
The latest GP tables are out NOW – click gp-after-14-events to check out where you are or have finished this year (and to see if you are still in line for your 8 race finisher award)
Rich Boucher rushed himself around as he meeting Liz Prady, both were racing Wadebridge Tri at noon (Rich you are a looney)
Well Done to those ladies who today did their first GP race for MBH (Kim, Sue, Helen and Louise) you should all be very proud of yourselves for finishing in such tough conditions.
Pete suffered from a bad stitch at mile 3 and slowly went backwards from there I’m afraid, but 8th place is still very special, young Tom Wood, who is only 15! posted a great time of 39.24 and was 3rd back for the Harriers
There were lots of new PBs (that’ll affect the MB Handicap race) so lots of work for our Jo Lawless to be getting on with in between morning sickness bouts!
Many thanks to all who helped Nancy today, and I’m pleased to say she is at home recovering (unfortuantely still not able to keep anything down) Charlie (her partner) is currently returning from Coventry Half where he today posted a new PB of 1.31.??
A big thankyou to Newquay Road Runners who once again put on a well marshalled, well organised race with a great good bag and shirt all for ?9.50, bargain!!
