Plymouth Half Marathon 2018

Plymouth Half Marathon 2018

14 Mounts Bay Harriers travelled up to Plymouth on sunday morning for the city’s annual Half Marathon race , which attracted a large field of 3427 runners.

The Plymouth Half Marathon is a challenging course for a city race , with a pre-dominantly uphill section along Gydinia Way from Plympton to Elburton between miles 4 & 6 ; numerous inclines and cobbled surfaces around The Barbican ; and a very steep climb up to the finish on Plymouth Hoe.

The runners also had to contend with extremely warm weather during the race ; and were very grateful for the extra water stations in the latter part of the race , and a cold water shower provided by the Plymouth Fire Brigade.

All of the Mounts Bay Harriers ran very well on the day , and said how much they enjoyed the superb organisation of the event ; the brilliant atmosphere and support of the crowds along the course ; and everyone received a commemorative medal , finishers t-shirt , and running shoe bag for completing the race.

Leading the Mounts Bay team home was Mark Worledge , who ran a fantastic race to be placed 148th overall in a time of 1:33:47 ; and he was followed in by Tom Berryman , showing a very welcome return to form to clock an impressive 1:35:05.

The first Mounts Bay lady runner to finish was Rebecca Wilding , in a fine time of 1:57:55.
