Redruth 10k – Sunday, 19 October 2008

I first did this race in 1988!!  It’s a hard race and times are never fast.  Whatever times you’ve done during the season this will likely be your slowest 10k of the year.
This was the 14th time I had run it and my best was 1993 in a time of 40.52, however, I cheated that day as did everyone else.  There was no marshal at the turn off point on Buller Hill (hill from Redruth to Fourlanes)  and consequently everyone, including me chopped off 60 to 70 metres on the last corner.  So, therefore, my time today of 40.40 was not only my fastest ever on this course but really the first time below 41mins!
6th overall out of 81 runners and 1st in my age group (over 55) (hate admitting that!)  I needed to prove something to someone today (even myself) after my disappointments with injury holdups during August and September.
Only 5 MBH turned up but, well, it’s end of season.  This race counts for nothing in GP series.  Boconnoc race on, others training for final marathon of year and obviously everyone running scared of me ???  !!
Andrew Hickson  11th overall in 43.07
Ian Gronwalt 25th overall in 47.57
Trina Peters 62nd overall in 59.49, breaking the 1 hour on a bloody hilly course where the wind seemed to be constantly in your face ? well done.
Nicola Wright (just over the hour)
One really good result –  no Mark O to complain about his bloody feet. Result!
Good luck to Mark in his marathon along with any other nutters that are attempting to do it.
Last few road races coming up locally are:
MBH beach run at Marazion on 9th November
Cornish Marathon 16 November – yeuk
Mob Match, Falmouth 23 November with presentations afterwards for GP
Turkey Trot at Redruth – 14 December with dinner afterwards
Keep on running.
