Here are the results for our first Remembrance Run!
All runners wore their poppies with pride and observed the 2 minutes silence before the start hooter was sounded.
Damien Wager and Michael Robinson of Hayle Runners were 1st and 2nd respectively in times of 28:57 and 29:28 on a course which saw the sun shining and the wind blowing. Darrin Porter of Truro running Club was 3rd in 30:36.
David Hahd of Falmouth Road Runners was still registering when the hooter went off to start the race and so he was a good minute (if not more) behind everyone else as he went chasing them down the beach trying to pin his race number on! Despite all this he still finished 4th overall in a time of 30:52!
Kensa Rescorla of Carn Runners was 1st lady home and 6th overall, followed by Emma Stallard of Cornwall AC in 32:42 and Joanna Swallow of Bath Amphibians in 33:04. They were 8th and 9th overall respectively.
Mounts Bay Harriers put up a good show with Geoff Letchford coming in 5th (1st vet over 50), 16th Sue Taylor (1st vet over 50), 17th David Austin (2nd vet over 50), 22nd Rob Burrows (3rd vet over 50). Looks like we’ve got a very good veterans team!!
Many thanks to all the volunteers who turned out to help, with only the slightest arm twist! Without them these events would not happen.
I hope everyone enjoyed the day – the conditions couldn’t have been better. Hopefully word will spread and more people will take part next year.
We have raised over £50 for the Poppy Appeal from entries, plus donations made on the day have increased this figure.
(A watch was found on the beach as well as a digital camera – if anyone has lost these please contact the club)
(I have photos of a lot of the finishers. If you let me know your race number, name and email address I will forward them onto you)
