A record 149 runners took part (together with some dogs) in the seventh Mounts Bay Harriers? St Michael?s Mount Remembrance Run in glorious sunshine and no wind!
Runners made their way to Marazion from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, East Sussex, Surrey, Yorkshire, Norfolk, London and Australia!!
A two minutes silence was held before the race horn sounded for remembering those fallen in war.
Once the race started a sea of red was seen running down the beach towards the river. The runners were meant to run through the river but all went over the footbridge but they did cross the river on their way back.
It was just off high tide and there wasn?t a lot of beach to run on but all the runners finished the four-mile run over sand, shingle, rocks, footpath, seaweed and river crossing. There were a lot of wet ankles!
Although it was a flat four miles the course proved tough for all with runners? times a lot slower than their normal pace. The feedback from all was very positive with everyone thoroughly enjoying the challenge.
Everyone received a special medal for the event. ?1 from every entry was donated to the Poppy Appeal. (?187 raised!)
Jez Mancer of St Austell RC was flying and finished first in 26.04 a minute ahead of Tom Howell, Newquay Road Runners, 27.05. Jamie Youlden also of St Austell RC was not far behind in 27.17.
For the women, Carol Randall of Mounts Bay Harriers put in a tremendous effort and finished first in a brilliant time of 29.42 well ahead of Heidi Tregenza of Cornwall AC in second place in 31.21. Lucy Mancer of St Austell was placed third in 33.10.
28 Mounts Bay Harriers took part which, with a similar amount marshalling, made in a good turn out from the Harriers!
Gary Randall finished 10 seconds ahead of Gary Richards with Julian Wills third Harrier home not far in front of the first female Carol Randall. Cherish Maxwell was second female Harrier home and also third female under 35 with Sarah Tregear third. Good runs also from Stuart Thomson for picking up second MV 35-39, Helen Dobson third FV 40-44 and Liz Prady second FV 55-59.
As always many thanks to all the marshals from Mounts Bay Harriers who gave up their time on Remembrance Sunday. A big thank you to Mount?s Bay Sailing Club for the use of their club house and facilities and for all the refreshments and also to St Aubyn?s Estate for the use of Folly Field car park.
