Sunday 4th August saw 4 Mounts Bay Harriers take on the London Prudential ride Surrey. Three Harriers took on the challenge of cycling the 100 mile route, they where Ruth Glover, Emily Sturges and Neil Eddy. Whilst Rachel Glover cycled the 46 mile route. This was a new event for all of the the Harriers.
The 100 mile route starts in Stratford and heads towards Richmond Park then to leith hill, heading back towards Kingston upon Thames and then finally heading to the finish line a along the mall. There where over 250,000 people taking part in either the 100 mile or 46 mile ride.
The 100 mile route has 2 particularly tough hill climbs in they are leith hill and box hill, with leith hill being the worse out of the two. Neil and Emily cycled together, they both really enjoyed the event, finishing in a good time of 5:39:26.
Ruth cycled by herself, despite feeling slightly nervous about doing a 100 miles without company, she enjoyed the company of other cyclists around her. Ruth was pleased to finish in a time of 6:46:59.
Rachel enjoyed her 46 mile cycle, this was one of her longest ever rides, but she enjoyed every minute of it, Rachel cycled with her son and his fiancé (they did a tandem cycle). Rachel was pleased to finish in a time of 4:04:52
The 46 mile started in the same place as the 100 mile cycle in Stratford and went out through Richmond park, they got to miss out the lovely Leith hill climb, carried on to Kingston upon Thames then down to the mall for the finish line.
All Harriers that took on the prudential want to thank the organisers and Marshall’s for doing such a great job at putting this event on and being so helpful and making sure that everyone was ok if anything went wrong.
