Brighton and Hove Triathlon:
This sprint distance Triathlon was held on Sunday the 15th of September, covering a 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5k run. This event could also be used as an ITU qualifier for worlds in Canada next year. Eden Elisabeth Backhouse as a British Triathlon age grouper as well as a Mounts Bay Harrier competed at this event. Eden stated it was an interesting. She had a great swim coming out pretty high up and got into T1 before all Triathletes were stopped after a huge crash on the bike course during by the males event. They waited about 10 minutes which has altered the overall times. The bike was amazing as managed to get into some really good bike packs and loved the technical course, after about 2 laps Eden began to feel over heated and not very well. She really wanted to give up but told herself to just finish and pushed herself to jog around the run and finished the race. Because Eden didn’t give up she managed to get 4th position which is a possible position to go to the worlds in Canada next year (to be comforted after T1 times are sorted). Message from Eden to all NEVER GIVE UP, you don’t know what you might accomplish from just finishing.
Sunday the 15th of September saw the last triathlon in the intotri series take place. This triathlon was held at Falmouth on Gyllyngvase beach. The conditions for this event where perfect, the sea was flat calm and there was a hardly any breeze. It started with a 600m swim around 3 buoys, then a 4 lap loop bike course (12 miles) around Pendennis point and finishing with a 5k run around pendennis in the other direction to the bike. There was a sprint and super sprint tri option. Ruth Glover took part in the sprint triathlon and did really well and enjoyed the last tri of the year, Ruth commented saying “she really enjoyed the bike part of the tri as she was having a race with a friend, beating each other up and down the hills” Ruth came 4 in her age group in Falmouth sprint tri which she was pleased with as the top three ladies she was racing against are very strong triathletes.
Rebecca Wilding took on the super sprint tri which is half the distance of the sprint tri. Rebecca did well and came second in her age group with a time of 51:52.
Ruth Glover along with another competitor where the only two in the whole series to complete all 8 races. Over all Ruth came 4 in her age category which she was pleased with as well as her age group is from 17-40.
In the afternoon the kids had their turn. There where 4 Mounts Bay harriers juniors taking part in the mini tri, they where Sawyer and Gabriel Kelly, Aria Griffiths and Cerys Matthews.
Aria and Gabriel raced first in the 8 year olds race, swimming 50m in the sea, cycling one lap of the bike route (800m) and running 600m which was one lap of the run route. Both Gabriel and Aria did really well, despite feeling slightly nervous about the sea swim both swam really well and enjoyed the event. Gabriel was really pleased to finish 2nd in his age group for Falmouth tri, he also finished 2nd over all in his age group which he was very happy with. Gabriel also completed all 8 triathlons in the series. Aria came 3rd in her age group for Falmouth tri which she was very happy about and overall in the tri series she came 2nd which she was very happy with. Aria also completed all 8 triathlons. Sawyer and Cerys raced in the 11/12 year olds race, both did really well. They had to swim 150m around the buoys, cycle 800m 3 laps of the bike course then run 3 laps of the run course before finishing. Both Sawyer and Cerys competed really well and enjoyed the event. Sawyer has also completed all 8 of the triathlon in the intotri series.
All Mounts Bay Harriers juniors that have taken part in this years triathlon series have all competed really well and enjoyed taking part and represented the club brilliantly.
