Who we are...

Mounts Bay Harriers are the newest local Running, Triathlon and Athletics Club in Penwith, being set up by local triathletes and runners in June 2005. The club meets at Mounts Bay School every Monday at 7pm for social runs of varying lengths, with structured coached sessions on Thursdays at 7:30pm at the Astro Park, behind Penzance Fire Station.

...and what we do!

The club now has over 200 members and regularly has 20-30 turning up for training sessions. Of the group that turn out there is always a wide standard of athletes from beginners, who are especially welcome, to accomplished triathletes and runners. The club also has a large junior section who meet on Friday nights at "The Dome" at Mounts Bay School, Heamoor.

An Resek Hellys 2010 - 10 miles

Gentle rain all the way but ideal running conditions. Just a very gentle breeze.

But…. from Looe Bar onwards, up the coastal path to Gunwalloe was a bit of a nightmare. There can’t have been one runner who didn’t have some sort of sliding crisis over this mile or so uphill section. I tried my hardest to find a dry line but it was impossible.

The mile markers were of some concern too. I was intending on trying to maintain 6.30 per mile so when the first mile marker came up in 6.30 I thought ‘IDEAL’ but then I thought hang on, that was downhill and… the very first mile. That for me should be around 6 or even 5.30!

The next mile marker came up in 6.30 so ok I thought, maybe I am just keeping a steady pace. But the 3 mile marker came up in 5 mins!! I lost faith in the accuracy of them at this point and used them as just a general reference.

My two age cat rivals, Malcolm Roberts of St Austell RC and Alan Cooper of Truro RC had been with me at the start but I had managed to pull out a gap from Malcolm by Looe bar.

The climb up the coast path took its toll but I kept a bit in reserve.
As we started the hills out of Gunwalloe I could hear the flag-waving St Austell supporters shouting for Malcolm not too far behind. I decided at this point to use my reserve up the hills and pull out a 100 metre lead, which I maintained to the finish.

A course PB for me by over 4 minutes, 27th overall and first place in my age cat so happy enough.

Other results of note:
Michale Robinson - 4th overall and 2nd in age group
John Doyle - 1st in over 50 age group
Rachel Tressider -3rd in her age group
Laura Shaw - 3rd in her age group

41 MBH turned out (but Nick Brooks pulled up at the first traffic lights with achilles problems)

Several members including Andrew H, Mark O and Ian M did a second lap and used it as a training run for London. Good luck I say.
Well done to Mike Robinson who did a fantastic time of 56.31 in very difficult conditions to finish 4th overall!

And Phil Sanger who did a PB of 63.31.

Apologies if anyone else did PB’s - just make sure our glorious leader Ian knows.
